Back in the late '60's my Mom mentioned she wanted a copy of Dale's latest book so I went to the Apple Valley Inn Gift Shop (we lived in nearby Victorville) and bought a copy for Mother's Day. On a whim on the way home I stopped at Roy & Dale's house on Hwy. 18; every local knew where they lived. I just knocked on the door and Dale answered and was gracious enough to autograph it for me. While doing so Roy walked through their living room, waved, and said "Howdy!" Kind, courteous, and down-to-earth famous people who never forgot where they came from.
