The theme song & the story of the Lone Ranger always intrigued me.
(Lake Villa, IL USA)
My dad hopped a freight train when he was 19 and went to Montana to stay with his uncle and aunts on a ranch near Roundout. He loved the wide open spaces and all 4 of us kids have a picture of him standing on his horse with the reins in one hand and his hat in the other. Needless to say, as I grew up, Sunday morning was cowboy tv time with my favorite being The Lone Ranger and Hopalong Cassidy following a close second. From Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hicock, etc that was Sunday mornings. Saturdays consisted of Have Gun Will Travel and of course I never missed Gunsmoke. Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were not quite a hit with dad because of the singing. He did not go for the singing cowboys, however my sister and I loved Roy and Gene. My dad remembers going to the movies and hanging his holster on a hook before going into the movies, which cost a nickel. Saw Tom Mix, Hoot Gibson and some others. Oh for those simple times. Those cowboys did not have an easy job. Dad had a lot of stories. We all miss him.
