I always Enjoyed Bonanza.. But I had a Personal Connection as well... My Aunt and Uncle lived in Waycross Ga...They Lived across the street from Pernell's Dad and Mom, Elvin and Betty Roberts..and we would visit them often and We usually ran out of Room at My Aunts House, and Mrs Roberts (she always had us call her Betty) would always offer us the Hospitality of their Home, So My Brother Roger and I would go over and Flake out on the Couch or take a Sleeping Blanket ..Because it was just like camping out for us..
I can remember one time in particular that we were over there and Pernell was home on Hiatus from Bonanza. ( this was just prior to him leaving the show.)..And he came home one night (he had been out with some friends )... He looked over at us spread out all over the living room and He said "This place is beginning to look more and more like the Ponderosa..Look at all this livestock" and then he Laughed..and we all had a good laugh . He always had a Great sense of Humor as a matter of fact he treated me and my little brother pretty much the same way he treated Hoss, and Little Joe on the Show. You know, Went swimming with us, or played one practical joke or another on us..Kind of like a Big Brother from another Mother. .Even though he was quite a bit older than us He was pretty much like a Big Kid himself ...
Well after a while We didn't get down to waycross as much for one reason or another and we didn't stay in touch I belive as Memory serves, (and it usually serves me up on a platter) Ha Ha , that time I mentioned when he was home was the last time that I saw Him In person, and I went in the service a few years later and got too busy with My own pursuits and just never tried to Get together again and I do regret Not trying to stay in touch .. Especially after hearing about his Recent Death..
I also regret that he never saw my Horses, Cash and Brownie. Because we used to talk about the horses on the Ponderosa and I always wished that he would be able to teach me to ride, Preferably on the Ponderosa "Yeah Right , that was gonna happen" Ha Ha.. But he never had the chance to teach me at all. Later on I taught myself to ride after I got in the Navy. We always seemed to have plenty of good horses around the bases..Particularly in the Phillipines and some nice horse trails ..Well thats about it.. I hope you enjoyed the Story I tried to Remember it as well as I could ..Its been a lot of years since the early sixties and a lot of Brain Cells gone down the Drain. as I will be 60 years old on Nov 7 2011 ..R.I.P. Pernell We miss You!! ..
Please excuse any bad Penmanship.. I enjoyed reading the other Memories. keep up the good work . Later Jake Paradise .
