Other Lone Rangers

If I recall there was a Lone Ranger series that lasted from 12 to 15 episodes starring seven (maybe five?) Lone Rangers before the television series. During the length of the series some of them died. Now, the fun for us kids was to guess who was the real Lone Ranger. It was an argument that lasted throughout the whole series keeping the audiences guessing till the last episode. The truth is I have no idea if any records exist about this Lone Ranger series. By the way, I was raised during the Great Depression, playing Cowboys with my brothers and neighborhood friends. As the youngest cowboy, I was always the bad guy.

Lone Ranger serial not series NEW
by: Mike Newton

This is in reference to the blog about the other Lonr Rangers. The blogger referred to it as a series. It was not a series, im the technical sense. It was a serial or chapterplay. A series of films meant a block of features (six or eight) with one hero but the stories are complete in themselves not episodic. The Lone Ranger radio program was on three nights a week, but the stories were all 30 minuyr vomplete episodes. Not like Tom Mix Ralston Streight Shooters, which were 15 minute episodes three times a week. There were two Lone Ranger serials. The first in 1938 with Lee Powell being the Ranger. There were five possible candidates for this part, but they kept getting killed off. The second was the Lone Ranger Rides Again with Bob Livingston who kept taking off his mask. This did not sit well with George W. Trendle, the radio show producer who owned the rights and he ordered Republic to destroy the prints. However, copies of both serials have been found and restored, and are available on line.
