If the Virginian pilot (which was produced in the late 1950's) had been accepted as originally written, we would have seen James Drury dressed as a dandy in skin tight pants, shiny boots, lace cuffed shirts and armed with a tiny pistol!

Of course, as we all know, that idea didn't sell. It took a few years to rewrite the show (The Virginian that we all remember first aired in 1962), but it was the right choice because The Virginian was one of TV's biggest hits!
